Portland Street Closed After Armed Siege
Portland Street in Aberystwyth town centre was closed off by police yesterday as they took part in a siege.
Original reports suggested that someone was being held hostage in Church Surgery although conflicting reports suggest that officers forced their way into a residential property in what is believed to have been a domestic incident.
Police eventually arrested a man but as of yesterday evening could not say that he had been charged in relation to the incident.
The siege follows an incident at the beginning of the week which saw a man armed with a knife rob the Spar store on Vaenor Street, although the suspect who has been living locally was arrested after the police examined CCTV images of the incident.
Fortunately in Aberystwyth we are not prone to having or witnessing these kinds of incidents, although two coming along in the space of a week has proved to be a bit of a shock all coincidences aside!
