Bronglais Mental Health Ward Closed Indefinately
A mental health ward at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth which reopened less than two months ago following essential maintenance is to be closed indefinately.
The Afallon Ward looks after a number of patients from the local area who have a range of mental health problems and needs, and those patients are now being moved to Carmarthern’s Glangwili Hospital which will men long journies for visiting friends and relatives.
It was also mentioned that some patients may be placed locally, with Aberystwyth having a number of care homes available including MHA Operated Hafan Y Waun which specialises in dementia care although the sites chosen for relocation were not specified.
Patients and their families were given just 2 days notice of the closure, and exactly how much maintenance work and therefore public money was wasted on the ward is not known but in this time of budget cuts any wastage in unacceptable and not only is this an embarrasing shambles for Hywel Dda but it also shows their lack of thought with regards to the welfare of patients and their families who already I am sure endure very difficult circumstances.
