Beware Of Council Tax Scam
Local residents have been warned to be on their guard after an elderly Aberystwyth resident was contacted by a council tax scammer.
This is not the first time a scam like this has been tried in the area.
The scam itself involves the caller making the victim believe their council tax account is in credit
The victim is the conned into believing that the caller requires their bank details in order to credit the money back to them.
However, this is not the case, and accounts can be cleared of funds within hours.
The local council has advised that residents should never give out their bank details over the phone, and has asked local people to remain vigilant.
