Dol-Y-Bont Circular Walk

BorthLength: 5 Miles

Time: 2 Hours

Start: Borth Lifeboat Station

End: Borth Lifeboat Station

Difficulty: Easy

This short circular walk offers unrivalled views over Cors Fochno and Cardigan Bay from the hillsides above the village of Borth. Mainly on quiet country lanes, you don’t even need your boots for this one! Although there is a short section on a riverside path, so if it’s rained recently it’s probably still best to have them on.

1. Starting at Borth lifeboat station, bear left past the boat yard and proceed up the hill until you come to a left turning with the entrance to Y Ffron caravan also visible.
2. Bear left up this country lane, as you slowly begin to ascend the hill with the stream and about 20 feet below, and the caravans visible through the woodland to your left and the fields to your right.
3. Continue up the road for around 20 minutes passing a small number of houses on your right including a small scrap yard.
4. At the top of the hill by the crossroads take a moment to enjoy the views with Borth village and the bog clearly visible camped between the mountains and the Irish sea.
5. At the crossroads bear left down the hill as the road brings you back down into the Leri valley until you reach the main Borth to Bow Street road.
6. Once at the main road bear left under the railway bridge, and then immediately right into the village of Dol-Y-Bont.
7. Carry on through the village, and over the old stone bridge which crosses the River Leri which eventually spills out into the Dyfi estuary at Ynyslas.
8. Once over the bridge and past the old stone barn on your left, take your next left turning and follow the road until you reach the old stone barn, which is part of the original Rachel’s Dairy farm.
9. Carry on past the farm house with its magnificent gates and follow the road as it bears round to the left, and becomes a track leading to a metal bridge over the River Leri.
10. Cross the bridge and bear right immediately onto the well walked pathway which hugs the line of the river with the caravan site on your left.
11. Follow the pathway until you reach the road, and continue straight on up the road towards Borth, taking care when crossing the railway line.
12. At the end of the road once reaching Borth village bear left and follow the main road back to the lifeboat station.
